Ride It
The Ohio Energy Project’s Energy Bike allows students the opportunity to experience the law of conservation of energy and energy efficiency. By pedaling the bike which is attached to an electrical board, the rider generates electricity to power a variety of light bulbs and small appliances.
Students See It
The rider reads the gauges to measure his or her performance and observes how brightly the light bulbs shine, in addition to experiencing how energy changes forms.
Students Feel It
Immediate feedback creates a deeper understanding and brings the message home to the rider-the more energy a light bulb or appliance requires, the harder it is to pedal the bike. They feel firsthand the remarkable difference between how much energy incandescent bulbs take compared to CFL’s and LED’s.
Students Understand It
The unique experience the Energy Bike provides effectively facilitates comprehensive understanding of the transformation of energy and of the importance of energy conservation. The information is learned in a manner that personalizes the experience for the rider, which strongly reinforces the information learned.
Why is OEP’s Energy Bike the best?
OEP’s bike is more intuitive, more versatile, easier to transport, more durable, quicker to assemble, less bulky, and incorporates the latest LED technology.
AEGIS-Activating & Energizing Girls in Science
The AEP Foundation sponsors the AEGIS program. The goal of this summer workshop is to get girls engaged in the sciences. A team of middle school female students and their teacher spend three days building the Energy Bike and learn leadership skills to present the bike back at school or within their community. The school then gets to keep the Energy Bike for use in their district. If your school is in Ohio’s AEP electric service territory and you would like more information about the AEGIS program, contact Debby Yerkes
