Energy Workshops & Fairs
An OEP partnership carries with it numerous benefits. One of the most popular is the ability to attend workshops and fairs, at no additional cost, presented throughout the state of Ohio
What is an Energy Workshop or Energy Fair?
Energy Workshops
are daylong programs focused on providing a variety of hands-on activities about the sources and forms of energy, as well as energy efficiency. Small teams of 6 students and their teachers attend Energy Workshops. Teachers are given a packet of curriculum materials that include how to recreate the activities demonstrated in the workshops and fairs. When they return to school, these teams are the energy leaders of their classroom. The energy leaders and their teacher facilitate energy activities for students in their classroom or school.
Energy Fairs
are very similar, but held in a larger location so teachers may bring an entire classroom, up to 30 students. Below are examples of the activities offered in previous years.
Energy Bike
Student teams begin by learning about the basics of generators. Students learn about energy forms and transformations through the use of the Energy Bike, which generates electricity by simply riding the bike.
Energy Explorations
Students rotate through various stations with topics focused on different energy sources, forms and concepts.
Energy Carnival
Students rotate through five games to review what they learned about energy. The games are Energy Jeopardy, Energy Pursuit, Energy Pictionary, Energy Taboo, and Play it Smart.
Why attend an Energy Workshop or Fair?
1) Learn and have FUN with the students who will become the Kids Teaching Kids in your school.
2) Receive curriculum materials aligned with state and national standards and
Ohio Proficiency Learning Outcomes.
3) Learn energy concepts such as energy sources, forms, transformations,
efficiency and electricity with the Energy Bike, Energy Carnival and various
energy gadgets, games and activities.
4) Teachers receive a certificate of completion to submit to their LPDC for CEU
credit.
5) Receive guidelines for attending OEP's Youth Energy Celebration in May, one
of the largest academic celebrations in Ohio. The efforts of teachers and their
students promoting energy education in their schools and communities are
recognized.
